Over time, a well-fitting denture may not fit as well as it once had. This happens when the ridge of gum underneath the denture slowly resorbs or shrinks, causing the denture to feel loose. Initially, a slight amount of denture adhesive may be beneficial. It may be more advantageous for comfortable and effective chewing if the denture is relined with new acrylic, or potentially if a new denture is fabricated.
